Top award win for energy-saving project
Leading social housing provider Stonewater, in partnership with Correct Contract Services (CCS), has been awarded a South West Energy Efficiency & Retrofit Award for the successful energy-saving Solar Thermal project on Dodgson Close in Fordingbridge. The award-winning project has provided eight Stonewater residents in an off-gas area of Dorset with more efficient hot water systems.
Launched in 2015, the awards aim to reward and provide recognition for the hard work carried out within the energy efficiency sector. The Fordingbridge Solar Thermal project took first place under the Regional Small Scale Project of the Year Award category within the South West.
The teams working on Dodgson Close were required to design, supply and install solar thermal, unvented hot water and oil boilers for each home. Solar thermal is a water heating system that uses free, renewable energy from the sun to provide homes with hot water. This means that standard boilers, which cost money to run, are only needed to boost this heat as required.
Nominees had to demonstrate the positive impact that their projects had on the community, the level of expertise demonstrated by the team and the reaction of the customers and local community to the project.
The judges were particularly impressed by Stonewater’s engagement with their residents which set them apart from the other candidates.
“We are so pleased to have our hard work recognised. Working together with Correct Contract Services we have been able to give this group of Stonewater customers cheaper bills in an area where they would usually have had to pay more,” says Sophie Tuffin, Building Services Co-ordinator at Stonewater. “We hope that our residents on Dodgson Close will enjoy their new cheaper set-up and we look forward to more opportunities to install renewable technology and further reduce our customers’ energy bills.”
Danny Gladwyn, Managing Director for Correct Contract Services, adds: “CCS is pleased to have secured this award in partnership with our client Stonewater and we feel it is a great example of what can be achieved by good partnership working and joined-up thinking with a client. We hope to continue this work with Stonewater as their approach to efficiency and their residents is encouraging for us as a contractor and for the future of energy efficiency. It was a pleasure to work with them on this project and great to see the results for the residents.”
