Summer Fun Day brings local neighbourhood together in Skipton
Local residents gathered together this week to enjoy a community-building ‘Summer Fun Day’ at the Stonewater housing development off Jubilee Close in Skipton.
Organised by leading affordable housing provider Stonewater, the fun-filled event included a team-building community tidy-up of the Close’s communal areas along with loom band-making, arts and crafts and a penalty shoot-out for children.
Residents were encouraged to fill out a questionnaire to review their local services and support agencies, many of which attended the event and were on hand to answer questions and provide information, help and advice on the day. This included representatives from the Skipton Police and North Yorkshire Fire Services, Craven Safer Neighbourhood Team, Foundation Housing, North Trading Standards and a Community Safety Officer. An under-18s West Yorkshire County Football Club and Brighouse Town AFC representative was also there to talk to the children about the importance of fair play and good sportsmanship in football and to promote the game as a great way to stay healthy and fit.
“The Fun Day proved to be a great way to bring residents and their families in the neighbourhood together, forge new friendships and generate community spirit,” said Sam Nicholls, Stonewater Housing Estate Officer. “It also gave us and other local agencies a chance to meet and chat with residents in person and help them with a wide range of issues from housing-related matters to local support and advice groups, home safety and crime prevention.”
