Stonewater wins place on Southampton Housing Framework
Hear from Stonewater’s Director of Development (South & Central).
Stonewater has been named on Southampton City Council’s Affordable Housing Framework.
The local authority’s decision to include Stonewater in its framework reflects its confidence in the organisation’s ability to provide high-quality homes for its customers alongside a cost-effective service.
The announcement means that Stonewater is one of a select few social housing providers who will be invited to tender to deliver affordable housing developments within the city’s boundaries.
The framework is one of the tools the council is using to accelerate the provision of new homes in the area so that it can meet its target of increasing the supply of affordable homes by 8,000 by 2040 and, as a result, reduce the waiting times for those on the housing register.
Marie Riordan, Stonewater’s Director of Development (South & Central), said: “After a rightly rigorous selection process, we are excited to have been awarded membership of Southampton City Council’s Affordable Housing Framework. The need for high-quality affordable homes has never been greater and we are looking forward to the opportunity to work with the council and helping it to achieve its aim of increasing housing supply and reducing waiting lists for residents.
“Many of the sites that the council is looking to develop are brownfield, so the framework will not only be delivering much-needed homes for local people, but it will also regenerate disused areas and breathe new life back into communities.”
Councillor Lorna Fielker, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Adults, Health and Housing at Southampton City Council said: “I am delighted that the Affordable Housing Framework has taken another step forward as we have now appointed the successful Housing Providers.
“We want our residents to live in safe and healthy homes which is why it is so important that we deliver good quality, affordable housing, to ensure our residents can live comfortably and independently for longer.
“I look forward to working in partnership with the Affordable Housing Providers to step up the delivery of more affordable housing in Southampton which in turn will improve the health and wellbeing of our residents”.
