Stonewater set to make waves in social housing market
The new housing association Stonewater has come into being as one of the UK’s most significant social housing providers.
Formed by the merger of Jephson and Raglan, Stonewater has around £160 million in turnover, £1.6 billion in assets, and manages around 31,000 homes across England.
The Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) gave its go ahead to the merger in September; and HCA and Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) approval to Jephson, Marches and Raglan Rule changes were finalised for the merger to take effect from 31 December 2014.
George Blunden, Chair of Stonewater’s Board said: “Everyone has worked incredibly hard to establish the new organisation and we’re now focused on working towards our goal - which is for everyone to have the opportunity to have a place they can call home, particularly those who may be disadvantaged or vulnerable and whose needs are not met by the open market.
“With the ever-growing need for affordable housing, Stonewater will deliver meaningful benefits for residents, employees, the business and our partners. I’m delighted and proud that one of our first achievements will be leading one of the UK’s largest development programmes which will provide more than 7,000 new affordable homes over the next ten years.”

The intention to merge Jephson and Raglan was announced in autumn 2013, following exploratory talks that summer. Merger work progressed throughout 2014, including developing a Business Case for the HCA, showing the new, merged organisation had the strength and capacity to deliver its ambitious plans.
