Stonewater football champions help raise £3,675 for Bristol children’s charity

A five-a-side team from affordable housing provider Stonewater which has local offices in Bristol, has returned victorious from an annual football tournament which raised £3,675 for ASK St Nicholas, a specialist after-school club for children with learning difficulties.

Organised by housebuilder Redrow Homes South West, the annual fund-raising event saw around 20 football teams from the housing industry in the West compete in the event at The Goals Soccer Centre, in Stoke Gifford, Bristol.

The Stonewater team, which lost the semi-final last year in a penalty shoot-out, found their form in the knock-out stages of the plate competition to win the final 4-1.

“We were up against some very talented teams from across the West, so winning the plate competition was quite a thrill for us, particularly after coming so close last year,” says Stonewater Regional Development Manager Matt Crucefix. “Redrow did a great job organising the event and we all had a fantastic day playing football with other housing providers and partners in aid of a very worthwhile cause – St Nick’s. Bringing home the trophy was the ‘icing’ on the cake.”

ASK St Nicholas is a purpose-built specialist school for children and young people, aged four to 19, who have severe, complex or profound and multiple learning disabilities. It currently has around 80 students. The aim of the school is to give its pupils the same opportunities as other children. The after school club enables them to mix socially with their friends and also gives parents and carers extra respite.
