Leading social housing provider, Stonewater is working with property developer, Thakeham Partnerships Ltd and Waverley Borough council to build 132 new homes available for social rent, shared ownership and rent-to-buy.

The Sturt Farm housing development will consist of 79 homes for social rent, 44 for shared ownership and nine properties for rent-to-own, with completion due for Spring 2023.

The development will offer 15 one-bedroom flats, 20 two-bedroom flats, 18 two-bedroom houses and 26 three-bedroom houses for social rent and nine two-bedroom flats for rent-to-buy. As part of the shared ownership scheme, there will be 17 two-bedroom houses, 15 three-bedroom houses and 12 four-bedroom houses.

Stonewater is committed to providing fuel efficient homes that not only make a positive contribution to the government’s 2050 net zero carbon emissions target, but also offer customers a warm and affordable home to live in. To support Stonewater’s sustainability commitments, solar panels will be installed at 120 of the new homes.

The properties will also have residents’ parking, electric car charging points, communal amenity space and each of the houses will have a private garden. There will also be a dedicated woodland area, landscaping and a children’s play space making this an ideal location for families.

This new development in Haslemere is just one of three development projects that Stonewater is working with Thakeham to deliver, with a development underway in Sussex and a recently completed scheme in Surrey – providing a further 101 affordable new homes.

Marie Riordan, Director of Development (South & Central) at Stonewater, said: “We are pleased to be working again with Thakeham, an organisation that shares our vision of providing sustainable and affordable housing.

“With this being our third housing development locally, we want to continue addressing the lack of affordable housing available by providing good quality, well designed, energy efficient homes that prioritise the needs of our customers.

“We are also really pleased to be working with Waverley Borough Council to support their commitment to provide much needed additional housing and are looking forward to seeing the contribution that these new homes will undoubtedly make to the local community.”

Rob Boughton, CEO of Thakeham, said: “Sturt Farm is an exciting new development which sees Thakeham working in partnership once again with Stonewater. Our partnership is built on our shared passion for creating sustainable communities. As a leader in the race to zero carbon, Thakeham will continue to pioneer better ways of delivering affordable homes in this development.

“Sturt Farm has a clear focus on the needs of people who need it most. It will help to ease the pressure on first time buyers and key workers seeking quality affordable homes in the area. More than that, with shrewd and creative planning we will create a community where local families can thrive and build a better future.”

Simon Stewart, Senior Surveyor at Rund Partnership comments: “We’re proud to work alongside Stonewater on its 100% affordable housing development and help achieve a highquality delivery with our multi-disciplinary service. Delivering 100% affordable housing at Sturt Farm shows a genuine commitment to solving the nation’s housing crisis and will unlock many opportunities for first-time buyers who are struggling to secure their first home.”
