Melbury Court residents set to benefit from Stonewater homes purchase in Swanage

Leading social housing provider Stonewater has celebrated the purchase of nine two-bedroom social rent apartments from Sovereign Housing Association, at Melbury Court in Cranborne Road, Swanage.

Stonewater, which already owns and manages eight apartments at the 17-apartment, three-storey development, originally built the homes in 1995. Ownership of Melbury Court has since been shared by Sovereign Housing Association and Stonewater, with each organisation managing different aspects of the building maintenance.

Both Stonewater and Sovereign consulted Melbury Court residents prior to the transfer of ownership.

“We are delighted to welcome our new tenants at Melbury Court into the Stonewater community,” says Scott Baxendale, Stonewater Executive Director – Assets. “The purchase of these additional social housing apartments will provide residents in the building with a more joined-up and streamlined service. It also gives us complete control over all aspects of the maintenance of the building, which had become quite complex in some areas over the years. I believe this purchase will make a positive difference and provide Melbury Court tenants with an efficient and high-quality service.”

Stonewater owns and manages 100 homes across Swanage, and 20 properties in the nearby rural villages of Langton Matravers, Worth Matravers, Studland and Harmans Cross.

Helen Hann, Sovereign’s Divisional Director, says: “Having managed homes at Melbury Court for many years, it was a difficult decision for us to say goodbye to the residents there.

“However, we know it makes sense for Stonewater to take responsibility for the whole building and we’re sure residents will receive a high-quality service from them. For us, we’ll be able to reinvest the proceeds from the sale in continuing to provide good services as well as building much-needed affordable homes in communities across Dorset.”
