Construction starts on 60 new affordable homes in Fairford
Construction is under way on 60 new affordable rent and shared ownership homes off London Road on the edge of Fairford, near Lechlade.
Leading social housing provider Stonewater, working together with Bovis Homes and Cotswold District Council, will provide the affordable homes as part of Bovis Homes’ 120-home development, Keble Fields.
When completed in December 2018, Keble Fields will offer 12 one-bedroom apartments and 28 two-, three- and four-bedroom houses for affordable rent. A mix of 12 two-bedroom and eight three-bedroom houses will also be available for shared ownership.
Each of the stylish new affordable houses will be equipped with private gardens, while the apartment block will have front and back communal gardens. Parking will be provided for all properties.
Keble Fields is less than a mile from Fairford town centre, which offers shops, restaurants, pre-, primary and secondary schools and other amenities.
“We are delighted that work has now started on these urgently-needed new affordable homes in Keble Fields,” says Matthew Crucefix, Stonewater Regional Development Manager. “With the average local house price reaching £382,000* – almost 50% higher than the regional average – and market rents almost 14 times the average local wage, many young families and key workers are finding themselves priced-out of the District. We hope these homes will help more local people find good-quality housing at a price they can afford, without having to move away from the community.”
Stonewater, which owns and manages 327 homes in the District, has recently celebrated the official opening of 23 affordable rental and shared ownership properties at Bloor Homes’ The Gateway development near Siddington village.
“We are very proud of our Keble Fields location and the positive feedback we have received about the new homes,” says Nicky Carroll, Partnership Housing Co-ordinator for Bovis Homes. “We are delighted to be working closely with Stonewater and the local community to deliver these much-needed new homes and look forward seeing this new location come to life.”
Cotswold District Council’s Strategic Housing Manager, Anwen Hughes says: “Cotswold District Council is committed to providing quality affordable homes for local people where they are most needed. Our Local Plan recognises this requirement as a key priority and our aim is to provide an adequate supply of good affordable and open market housing, of appropriate types and tenures, for local need.
“Developments like Keble Fields are key to preserving the long-term health and prosperity of our market towns and villages. Fairford is a great place to live and these attractive affordable homes for rent and for purchase are designed well, complying with the latest insulation standards to keep heating costs low.
“The Council and Stonewater have been working closely on a number of housing projects to maximise the benefit to local households, and we look forward to the delivery of more affordable housing in the District where it is needed most.”
