A stylish new development of 15 affordable homes at Fairfield Green in Horley was officially opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony last week (20 October), hosted by Stonewater, a leading social and affordable housing provider.

The smart new two- and three-bedroom Stonewater homes have been built behind existing housing on Haroldslea Drive as part of a larger 50-home Martin Grant Homes development.

The new Stonewater development offers four two-bedroom and two three-bedroom houses for affordable rent, and seven two- and two three-bedroom houses for shared ownership, available from £106,000 for a 40% share. The rental homes will be allocated through Reigate & Banstead Borough Council.

Complete with a private back garden, patio and tool shed, the new homes are highly insulated and have been equipped with water-saving devices and combi boilers with built-in gas savers. They have been constructed to a Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3 equivalent standard, which keeps running costs low. The properties have good parking facilities.

“We are delighted to have completed our first affordable housing development with Martin Grant Homes in Horley,” says Marie Riordan, Stonewater Regional Development Manager. “Like many other areas across the South East, the high demand for affordable housing outweighs the supply, leaving many young families and key workers on modest incomes priced out of their area. We hope that these new affordable homes at Fairfield Green will help tackle this shortage, helping more people find a good-quality home in their local area at a price they can afford. We are also looking forward to building more mixed housing communities like this one where they are needed most.”

Less than a mile from Horley town centre and 10 minutes from Gatwick Airport, the Stonewater homes in Fairfield Green are close to two children’s play areas and rural public open spaces, with mature trees and a wildflower area. Stonewater has also provided two ironwork herons to decorate the pond adjacent to the development.

Chris Hamilton, Martin Grant Homes Managing Director, says: “Martin Grant Homes are very pleased to have partnered with Stonewater on this project. Fairfield Green offers a rare opportunity to live in a stylishly designed and well planned brand-new community, less than a mile away from Horley town centre and with superb links to Gatwick and the South Coast and London to the north. Arranged in neighbourly cul-de-sacs, these exceptionally-built new homes combine attractive facades and ‘kerb appeal’ with contemporary layouts that will meet the demands of modern-day family living.”

Stonewater currently owns and manages 50 properties in the Reigate and Banstead area.
