Transfer proposed in Stonewater Group talks

Stonewater, Porthove Housing Association and the Rotary Club of Hove Housing Society are in discussions that will see 97 homes transfer to the leading housing association.

Leading housing provider, Stonewater, has confirmed a proposed transfer that would see Porthove Housing Association (PHHA) and the Rotary Club of Hove Housing Society (RCofHHS) become a subsidiary of the Stonewater Group later this year.

Discussions are underway for the Transfer of Engagements to transfer management of around 97 homes, predominantly housing for older people in Brighton and Hove, joining Stonewater’s 40,000 homes across the UK.

The announcement follows ongoing discussions between PHHA, RCofHHS and Stonewater, who agree that the partnership would see customers benefit from a wider housing choice and service offer, combating the mounting challenges faced by the smaller organisations with increasing regulation and diminishing resources.

It is proposed that PHHA and RCofHHS will become the latest subsidiaries to join the Stonewater Group, which has successfully welcomed other providers, including Greenoak and Mount Green Housing Association, in the last two years. The move would provide increased financial security and investment opportunities while retaining a strong commitment to local engagement and services.

Jonathan Layzell, Stonewater’s Chief Executive, said of the proposed partnership: “Porthove Housing Association and the Rotary Club of Hove Housing Society share our strong commitment to putting customers at the heart of what they do and we very much hope to welcome them to the Stonewater Group later this year.

“The transfer of homes will allow the organisations and their customers access to Stonewater’s large scale ability to deliver a wider choice of homes and enhanced services, while being confident of a continued commitment to local engagement and customer service.”

While the partnership has been agreed in principle, talks will now continue to agree more detail, and it is hoped that the transfer will be completed later in 2025.
