Stonewater has completed £1.1million worth of upgrades at its Herald Court retirement living scheme in Dudley, creating more space for customers to socialise and enjoy activities.
The scheme, which first opened in 1986, provides 34 one-bedroom flats for people over the age of 55. The upgrade work included relocating and extending the customer lounge and office, while a new games room and library have also been built.
The changes are already making a difference to life at Herald Court, with customers enjoying more opportunities to come together and socialise through a variety of leisure activities. Plans are also underway to launch a new garden club, building on the sense of community that has grown since the renovations were completed.
One customer, Carol, said of the upgrades: “It’s like a five-star hotel now. My granddaughter came to visit and said how beautiful and lovely the space is now.”
Another customer, Alexander, said: “The work is so marvellous and wonderful. Now we have beautiful homes to live in and I’m very proud to live here.”

The works were carried out by property maintenance provider CLC, who also donated a 50-inch television to the scheme for customers to enjoy in their new lounge.
Helena Doyle, Customer Experience Director, said: “Herald Court has been a part of the local community for almost 40 years. At Stonewater, we understand the importance of investing in our established schemes, as well as providing new homes. These changes have enriched the wellbeing of customers living at Herald Court and has encouraged stronger relationships between customers and colleagues.
“The changes we have made with the support of CLC will ensure that customers can continue to have pride in their homes while feeling part of a thriving, supportive community. It is a pleasure to hear about the difference these changes are already making.”
Stuart Lilley, Divisional Manager at CLC, said: “This full communal refresh, fire door installation, new warden call system, as well as other works, will not only improve the safety of residents but will also improve the day to day lives of residents. The residents are really pleased and many have said how much nicer a space it is to live in.”
Over the past 10 years, Stonewater has invested £19.97 million in refurbishment works across 29 schemes, distributing £4.49 million in the last two years alone. These schemes are situated in all regions from the Southwest, Southeast, West Urban, West Rural, East and North.
