Old coach park to become site for 27 affordable homes

Development has begun on a new affordable housing scheme in Ludgershall, Wiltshire, which is set to provide energy efficient homes for local people.

Date published: 27 January 2026

Stonewater is working in partnership with Rigg Construction, Wiltshire Council and construction consultants Baker Ruff Hannon to deliver the scheme, with support from Homes England and Recycled Capital Grand funding.

The homes are being built on an old coach park and will be made up of 4 two-bedroom flats, 13 two-bedroom houses and 10 three-bedroom houses, which will all be available for social rent. All the properties will be built to modern energy-efficient standards and will feature sustainability measures, such as air source heat pumps and solar PV panels.

Each home will have access to a private garden and once the scheme is finished, a piece of public art will be commissioned for the estate, in line with Stonewater’s public art initiative. It is planned for the piece to reflect the site’s history and heritage and be made of decorative gates.

Matt Crucefix, Director of Development (South West and West) at Stonewater said: “Stonewater is proud to be continuing the development of housing in rural communities, increasing the offering of affordable homes to people who live in these much-loved villages and are priced out the area.

“This new development in Ludgershall will help meet the housing crisis that faces rural communities across the country, meeting housing need and ensuring a range of people, like families, pensioners and young people have the option to remain living in the area they love.”

Ludgershall has a wide variety of shops, banks and supermarkets and benefits from a local primary school, which is located a six minute walk from site, while larger towns, Andover and Salisbury, are easily accessible via bus. The development is due to be completed in August 2026.
