Kelly Piper moved to her home at Loddon Way, Stonewater’s over-50s community of 25 homes in Wiltshire, in April 2024.
Originally heated by an inefficient night storage system, Kelly’s home was costly to run and often felt cold – especially in the evenings.
So when Stonewater offered all customers at Lodden Way the opportunity to upgrade to a brand-new, modern air source heat pump system, Kelly jumped at the chance.
“The new heating system has made a huge difference to us”, says Kelly, who is not only saving money due to the retrofit work, but is also feeling healthier, warmer and more settled.
“I’ve gone from paying £10 to £12 per day for heating that didn’t really work to £3, sometimes even less, per day for both heating and hot water.”
Unfortunately, due to the age of the property and a previous tenant’s reluctance to have work carried out, Kelly’s bungalow had been particularly vulnerable to damp and mould.
Having previously suffered from chest infections, Kelly says the difference to her health has been dramatic since the installation of the pump and additional loft insulation.
She added: “The best thing is that the work has improved the damp problems we had in the bungalow, and I haven’t been poorly since the pump went in.
“Having heating that works has transformed my home and health. It’s really easy to use too.
“I know it can be daunting for some people, but I just set some time aside to understand how to get the best from the new system, and it’s been fine. I’d recommend it to anyone.”
Kelly is also looking forward to new windows being fitted shortly, further improving the comfort of her home. A new kitchen is also being installed as part of Stonewater’s planned maintenance programme.
Joe Hutcheson, Head of Retrofit Programme & Reporting at Stonewater, added: “This outcome is a great example of how energy-efficient systems, particularly heat pump installations, have positively affected the living conditions for our customers.
“We’d like to thank Kelly and the other customers at Loddon Way for embracing the retrofit works. It's wonderful to see the improvements making such a dramatic difference in terms of health, comfort and financial stability.”
