Making accommodation affordable and accessible to those in need has been a constant priority in the UK, dating back to before the First World War. We’ve seen pre-war Industrial Revolution slums, post-war rebuilding, Council housing, and the rise of Housing Associations.
The delivery of social housing in the UK has been dictated by government policies and legislation, and by events that have impacted society and our way of life.
Our History of Social Housing timeline takes you through the defining moments, and how we grew from helping to rebuild after World War II to becoming a vital cog in the UK’s housing sector, and now we’re looking to take that to the screen.
We’re producing a video documentary on the “History of Social Housing” and want to feature real voices and stories from our community. The real stories behind the headlines.
If you have lived experience, professional insights, or a unique perspective, we’d love to hear from you. This is your chance to be part of a meaningful project celebrating social housing.
