Stonewater has welcomed the Government’s Future Homes Standard and its ambition to improve the quality, efficiency and long‑term sustainability of new homes.
The initiative’s focus on high levels of fabric efficiency, low‑carbon heating and solar energy reflects the approach Stonewater has already embedded across its new developments.
Across Stonewater’s new build homes, customers are already seeing the real‑world benefits. Families moving from older, less efficient properties into modern homes have reported significant reductions in energy costs, alongside improvements in comfort and wellbeing.
In some cases, customers have seen their energy bills nearly halve compared with their previous homes, helping to ease pressure on household finances during a prolonged period of high energy prices.
As one customer living in a new Stonewater home explained: “Our previous home was cold and extremely expensive to heat. Now we can see exactly how much energy we’re using day by day, and our bills are noticeably lower. The house feels warmer, more comfortable and far less stressful to live in.”

Homes that combine fabric‑first design with low‑carbon technologies and smart systems are proving particularly effective.
Customers can better understand and manage their energy use, with features such as room‑by‑room heating control and simple digital monitoring helping to reduce unnecessary consumption while maintaining comfort.
Jonathan Layzell, Chief Executive of Stonewater, said: “For customers, sustainability is about practical outcomes rather than targets. It means homes that are warm, comfortable and affordable to live in, while giving people greater control over their energy use. That is why sustainability and environmental efficiency underpin every new home we develop.
“We are already seeing how well‑designed, energy‑efficient homes can significantly reduce energy bills and improve quality of life. The Future Homes Standard has the potential to embed this approach across the sector, ensuring more people can benefit from homes that are built for the future.”
Stonewater is committed to continuing this customer‑focused approach as the Future Homes Standard is implemented. By reducing energy demand at source and integrating low‑carbon technologies into new developments, Stonewater aims to deliver homes that remain affordable to live in over the long term, while also supporting national net zero ambitions.
