The first of 40 new affordable homes have been delivered in Oxfordshire thanks to a partnership between Stonewater and West Oxfordshire District Council.
The eight homes nearing completion are located on the 100% affordable housing development at Cote Road in Aston.
Made possible by Homes England grant funding, the five-acre site at the edge of the village will offer a mix of two and three-bedroom homes to meet the local demand for affordable, high-quality housing.
Sustainability will be at the heart of the 40 new homes being developed, which will offer a mix of social rent and shared ownership tenures.
Each home will feature solar (PV) panels, battery storage, and air source heat pumps - technologies designed to reduce carbon emissions and keep customers’ energy bills low.
The development will also include electric vehicle (EV) charging points and secure cycle storage, further promoting eco-friendly living.
To celebrate the area's heritage, a local artist has been commissioned to create a public artwork inspired by the history of Aston. This piece will serve as a welcoming focal point for both new residents and the wider community.
Marie Riordan, Director of Development (South & Central) at Stonewater, said:
“We’re proud to see the first eight homes nearing completion at Cote Road, marking an important milestone in our partnership with West Oxfordshire District Council. These homes represent more than bricks and mortar – they offer local families high-quality, energy-efficient homes they can afford and be proud of.
“With sustainability and community at the heart of this development, we’re excited to continue delivering the remaining homes, supporting the Council’s vision for West Oxfordshire.”
Councillor Geoff Saul, Executive Member for Housing and Social Care, said: “This development is a significant step forward in addressing the housing pressures in West Oxfordshire. With average house prices nearing £416,000, homeownership remains out of reach for many.
“By collaborating with Stonewater and utilising Homes England grants, we will be delivering 40 much-needed affordable homes in Aston, providing local families with the opportunity to buy housing within their own community.
"These eight new homes are part of a larger development which has been made possible by Homes England grant funding. Without this, securing 100% affordability on this development would not have been possible.”
