Brighton & Hove housing transfer progressing

The transfer would see around 97 homes added to Stonewater’s existing portfolio of 40,000 homes nationwide.

Stonewater has announced that it is progressing plans for Porthove Housing Association (PHHA) and the Rotary Club of Hove Housing Society (RCofHHS) to join as subsidiaries early next year.

The organisations are in discussions regarding a Transfer of Engagements that would see around 97 homes – mainly providing housing for older people across Brighton and Hove – added to Stonewater’s existing portfolio of 40,000 homes nationwide.

Since an agreement in principle was revealed in June, the three organisations have continued working through the details of the proposal. It is currently anticipated that the transfer will be completed by 30 April 2026.

It comes as PHHA, RCofHHS and Stonewater have been exploring how the partnership could strengthen services for customers, particularly at a time when smaller housing providers are facing increasing regulatory pressures and limited resources.

The proposed move would offer residents access to a broader range of homes and services, supported by Stonewater’s scale and long-term investment capacity.

Once approved, PHHA and RCofHHS would become the latest organisations to join the Stonewater Group, which has successfully integrated other partners, such as and Mount Green Housing Association, over the past two years.

The agreement would ensure ongoing financial resilience, while maintaining a strong focus on local services and engagement.

Jonathan Layzell, Chief Executive at Stonewater, said: “Porthove Housing Association and the Rotary Club of Hove Housing Society share Stonewater’s commitment to delivering great services and putting customers first. We are excited about the potential benefits this partnership could bring and look forward to the opportunity to welcome them into the Stonewater.

“By joining us, their customers would gain access to a wider range of services and the advantages that come with Stonewater’s scale, alongside our continued dedication to strong local relationships.”
