Leatherhead-based housing association, Mount Green, which joined the Stonewater Group in 2024, has appointed Heather Bowman as the new Chair of Mount Green’s Board following the retirement of Martin Large, at the end of September.

Martin led the Common Board of Greenoak and Mount Green housing providers since its formation in 2024 and previously served as Chair of the Greenoak Board from 2019.

Heather brings extensive experience to the role as both an executive and non-executive director, having worked in social housing and the wider sector for over 35 years. She is currently a board member at Stonewater and previously served as Chief Operating Officer at Sovereign Housing.

Heather is widely recognised for her commitment to creating safe, secure and high-quality homes where individuals and families can thrive.

Speaking about her appointment, Heather said: “I’m honoured to take on the role of Chair at Mount Green at such a pivotal time. This is an organisation with a strong sense of purpose and a deep commitment to providing high-quality, affordable homes where individuals and families can flourish.

“I look forward to working with my fellow board members and colleagues across Mount Green and Stonewater to build on the strong foundations already in place to support the communities we serve.”

Stonewater, one of the largest housing providers in the country, has also announced that Nicola Webber will take over as Chair of its Risk and Assurance Committee, following the departure of Andrew Lawrence.

Nicola brings substantial expertise to the role as a chartered accountant with a background in corporate finance, private equity and investment management. She is a portfolio non-executive director, working with purpose-led organisations, and has extensive experience as Chair of audit, risk and finance committees. She will support the organisation to maintain strong governance and risk oversight.

Nicola said: “I’m delighted to be stepping into the role of Chair of the Risk and Assurance Committee at Stonewater.

“Strong governance and effective risk management are essential to delivering our mission, especially as we expand our efforts to meet the government’s 1.5m homes target.

“I look forward to working closely with the board and Stonewater’s Chief Officer Group.”

Jonathan Layzell, Chief Executive of Stonewater, added: “Everyone at Stonewater and Mount Green extends their best wishes to Heather and Nicola as they begin their new roles. We also offer sincere thanks to Martin and Andrew for their valuable contributions.

“As Chair, Martin provided thoughtful leadership during a time of significant change and transition for the two organisations. His dedication and commitment have left a lasting impact.”
