Maesdown Evercreech
Stonewater started work on this greenfield site in December 2016 with Winsley White Ltd (a contractor from Chilcompton) with support from both Mendip District Council and Evercreech Parish Council to deliver 30 affordable homes. These properties were made available to people with a local connection to Evercreech in the first instance with 20 homes available on an affordable rented basis and the remaining 10 homes available on a shared ownership basis.
Throughout construction Stonewater worked with the local school, Evercreech C of E Primary School, to understand any concerns that the school may have with a construction site located just a few minutes walk from the school.
As part of the ongoing relationship with the school Stonewater suggested a site visit which was welcomed by the governing body. Winsley White showed year 6 pupils around the site and talk to them about construction equipment, protective clothing, safety around building sites and cyclist and pedestrian safety.
We also worked with the school to come up with the road name for the new development. The school ran an election to choose the name with the support of the local Parish Council.
Stonewater’s 2000th home event was organised at Maesdown and was well attended with representation from the Local Authority, the National Housing Federation, the developer, the local school, the EA and Stonewater.
A time capsule was buried on site to celebrate our 2000th home achievement by children from Evercreech C of E Primary school. The school children filled the time capsule with pictures, drawings and examples of work they had created. The capsule will be unearthed in 25 years time when todays children will be able to look back and remember this time.
The scheme was shortlisted for the Inside Housing, 'Affordable Housing Development of the Year' in 2018 and whilst the scheme didn’t win, it was a great achievement to be shortlisted for such an award.
Chestnut Lane was also 'Highly Commended' at the Somerset Building Control 'Partnership Building Excellence Awards' in January 2019.
