“Since the Right to Manage legislation was introduced in 2002, we have supported a number of residents to take this step. The residents of Rectory Court in Cheltenham have recently taken on this option and are clearly doing very well. Only relatively few pursue this option, however accepting this level of responsibility for managing a scheme isn’t for everyone and the majority are happy to let us take care of service provision.
“While using local contractors can work well in individual self-managed schemes, it doesn’t always make sense on a larger scale or across wider geography. Stonewater owns and manages around 32,000 homes in England for over 65,000 customers and we have a duty to provide services which are cost-efficient, affordable and sustainable across the board.
“We promise to put customers at the heart of everything we do and central to this is listening to what they tell us. Following feedback from some leasehold retirement customers, we are currently re-tendering a number of services which will give more local contractors the opportunity to tender for contracts, where this is practically and financially viable.
