Local residents meet their neighbours at Fosse Park Road street party in West Hendford
A street party event this week has given local residents a chance to get to know their new neighbours at Fosse Park Road, Stonewater’s brand-new affordable housing development in West Hendford, Yeovil.
Organised by leading social housing provider Stonewater, the ‘meet your neighbours’ event included barbeque food and a range of street entertainers including jugglers, bubble blowers, a balloon maker, a caricature artist and live music. For the children, there were also bouncy castles and giant board games to enjoy, as well as ice creams.
Built on a former garage site, Fosse Park Road provides a mix of 42, one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom homes for affordable rent and nine two- and three-bedroom homes for low-cost shared ownership, starting from £72,000 for a 40% share. Stonewater worked together with Halsall Construction and South Somerset District Council on the £5.8 million scheme.
“As a responsible housing provider, we believe in creating a real sense of place and community in our developments,” says Joanna Barnard, Development Officer for Stonewater. “This street party has given our residents the perfect opportunity to get out and meet their new neighbours while having some good fun! We have really enjoyed putting together this event for the community and hope everyone has had as great a time as we have.”
Stonewater has a long-standing successful working relationship with South Somerset District Council. The social housing provider owns and manages over 1,000 homes in the district, and is currently working on a nearby development of 14 homes for affordable rent and shared ownership in the village of Stoke-sub-Hamdon, near Yeovil.
